Rams U16 1 lost their 2nd straight game at home to Reading Rockets.
Rams jumped out to an early lead with their trapping defence causing issues for the Rockets who appeared a bit shell-shocked by the scrambling Rams D. A flurry of 3 pointers from Matt and some great work from Ollie inside took Rams out to a double digit lead.
One of our tallest J.Bayliss dwarfed by Reading #14
However the Rockets had one player who appeared to be about 6 inches taller than any Rams player and his ability to rebound and put back proved too much over the course of the game.
Ollie continued his great work despite being overmatched in terms of size and he showed his full array of post moves to score consistently and help keep the Rams in the game.
Outside of Ollie and Matt, Rams were unable to find any other offence and as the game wore on, signs of frustration crept in with lots of forced shots that really had no chance to go in, leading to a lot of easy baskets for Reading who found dunks and 3’s easy to come by.
Turnover followed turnover followed turnover, usually off dribbling or forced passes. Barely a whiff of the deny defence that some of our defensive schemes rely on also aided the Reading offence and with Reading moving to a couple of different zone looks of their own and some switching on screens they took away what was working and Rams failed to find any other answers.
When Ollie went off injured in the 4th, what little hope there still was for a comeback evaporated and Reading ran out comfortable winners 59 – 73
